Lieutenant Columbo

Anyone who knows me will know that i'm a huge fan of Columbo.

The great Homicide Detective show with the best known episodes running from 1971 until 1978, but regular repeats have been shown on our TV's so many times since. The program didn't follow the usual "whodunnit" style but opted to show you the murder at the very beginning of the show. So with the deadly deed done, what keeps me and the thousands of viewers glued to the show - COLUMBO.

He would slink into the murder scene with his usual shabby overcoat, hard boiled egg and a half chewed cigar filling the murderer with a sense that they're going to get away with it. However, Columbo confirms the criminal's guilt by lulling them into a false sense of comfort and security. Getting them to assist with the twists and turns of the investigation , before leading them down a series of circumstances which encouraged them to incriminate themselves and unwind the Murder plot.

The great "Just one more thing" line always being sure to finally catch the killer off guard and assist his dogged determination to catch the killer.

Shear genius.

My dad and I would be fascinated with every story line, trying to outwit the Lieutenant at every turn, but in the end falling in love with Mrs Columbo, the dog and that famous line (which I try to use every day at work).

So Peter Falk thanks for allowing me to share an hour with my Dad that I now would give any for again.
